A full redesign and reimagining of Western University’s biannual flagship publication now renamed, Western Alumni Magazine.
Aimed at a diverse global alumni readership, the magazine is defined by a refined, tactile experience that emphasizes intentional pacing and an “art gallery” styled type system that allows readers to focus on that art and stories.
Using inspiration from the Super Normal theory as a starting point, a basic sans-serif type program is combined with clean layouts and a mix of off-the-cuff and playful illustration and more serious, grounded photography.
The digital version—built by none other than Matt Warland—retains the sophistication of the print edition by offering intuitive, seamless navigation that connects readers with stories in a way that respects Western’s commitment to great journalism and artistic integrity.
