A full redesign and reimagining of Western University’s biannual flagship publication—aptly renamed, Western Alumni Magazine.
Aimed at a diverse, global alumni readership, the magazine’s design is defined by a refined, tactile experience that emphasizes visual clarity and intentional pacing, creating a minimal, “gallery” aesthetic that allows readers to focus on art and storytelling.
Following inspiration from the Super Normal theory as a starting point, sans and sans-serif type is combined with clean layouts and a sophisticated mix of off-the-cuff—often playful even—illustration and serious, grounded photography.
The digital platform—built by none other than Matt Warland—aims to retain the sophistication of the print edition. Offering intuitive, seamless navigation and a rich online delivery, the new site connects readers with stories in a way that respects Western’s tradition of depth and integrity while embracing modern sensibilities.
